Where did Smør Bord begin?

I grew up around the world with a Norwegian father and a Scottish mother, so food from different cultures has always been part of everyday life for me.

One of my earliest memories of visiting Norway is sitting around the breakfast table with family and hearing the phrase “Ikke smør” when my cousin was asked what they wanted on their toast. Roughly translated as “no butter”! (This definitely wasn’t me — I’ve always believed butter makes most things better.)

That small moment stayed with me, and years later, inspired the name of Smør Bord — literally meaning “butter table”.

Smør Bord (SM-UH-R / B-OO-R)

It means ‘butter table’. What more could you want?

After 15 years working in corporate finance alongside Edinburgh life with a young family, a shift in priorities led me to rethink what I wanted to build.

Smør Bord brings together Nordic-inspired smørrebrød, salads and grazing tables with Scottish ingredients to create food that’s healthy, generous, and full of flavour.

Rooted in tradition and good ingredients, Smør Bord brings nutritious, generous food to offices, homes and events — thoughtful but never overcomplicated.

Smør Bord is about slowing down, eating well, and sharing food that’s made with care.

I’m proud to welcome you to the table.
